Jam Theatricals and the Frauenthal Center for the Performing Arts are thrilled to announce that RIVERDANCE will come to Muskegon! Recently, the producer of RIVERDANCE, Moya Doherty, announced that the US touring production of the internationally-acclaimed worldwide phenomenon will close in June, 2012. RIVERDANCE will play at the Frauenthal Center FOR THE VERY LAST TIME on Friday, March 9 at 8 PM.

Individual tickets will go on sale January 20, 2012. Tickets will be available for purchase at StarTickets.com, (800) 585-3737, Michigan Meijer locations and Frauenthal Box Office (425 Western Ave.).

“When we opened RIVERDANCE in New York in March 1996, we never thought for one minute that our show would still be running 15 years later,” said Moya Doherty. “Three years ago we embarked on our farewell tour, saying good-bye to every city in North America we have ever played in over the years, and next June 17th in our 16th year this current production of RIVERDANCE will end and we will say our final good-bye. It has been a source of immense pride for me as Producer that America took RIVERDANCE to its heart to such an amazing extent and I would like to pay tribute to every dancer, musician, singer and all the crew and staff who served RIVERDANCE so well over the years. “

The show that started it all, RIVERDANCE, has been performing in the United States since March, 1996 when it had its U.S. premiere at Radio City Music Hall in New York. Since then, the show has tapped its way onto the world stage thrilling millions of people around the globe.

While the touring production in the U.S. will close on June 17, 2012, productions of RIVERDANCE will continue to tour the world.

From Los Angeles to Louisville, Seattle to Boston, Chicago to Chattanooga or Memphis to Miami, the power of RIVERDANCE – its music and more than 50 stomping feet – has captured the hearts of millions.

Composed by Bill Whelan, produced by Moya Doherty and directed by John McColgan, to date, RIVERDANCE has played over 10,000 performances, been seen live by more than 22 million people in over 350 venues throughout 40 countries across 4 continents. They have traveled well over 600,000 miles (or to the moon and back!), played to a worldwide television audience of 2 billion; sold over 3 million copies of the Grammy Award-winning CD (certified Platinum in the US) and over 10 million videos making it one of the best-selling entertainment videos in the world! RIVERDANCE had its world premiere at the Point Theatre, Dublin, in February 1995, where it opened to unanimous critical acclaim.

What began as a seven-minute dance segment on the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest (televised to over 300 million people throughout Europe) and then quickly turned into a full-scale production has become much more than an international theatrical success. “I believe RIVERDANCE has been basically a pathfinder,” said Niall O’Dowd, founder of Irish America Magazine and the Irish Voice newspaper. Along with the peace process in Northern Ireland and the economic miracle in Ireland proper, the show “has been a hugely important part of a transformation of the image of Ireland in the last 20 years.”

In a flash, RIVERDANCE became Ireland’s greatest ambassador and the thirst began. RIVERDANCE changed the face of Irish dance and despite its imitators, has remained on top and was voted the #1 Variety/Family Entertainment Show in the US (1998).

There have been many milestones along the way including the distinction of being the largest Western musical to play China; a record-breaking line of 100 Irish dancers mesmerizing 85,000 people at the 2004 Special Olympics in Dublin; a 15th Anniversary celebration at Radio City Music Hall; dancing in Red Square and on the Great Wall of China, two SRO engagements in South Africa and much more.

Of all the performances to emerge from Ireland in the past decade, nothing can compare to the energy, the sensuality and the spectacle of RIVERDANCE. An innovative and exciting blend of dance, music and song, RIVERDANCE draws on Irish traditions and the combined talents of the performers propel Irish dancing and music to the present day capturing the imagination of audiences across all ages and cultures. This extraordinarily unique show features an international company all performing to the magic of Bill Whelan’s music.

On Sunday, March 25th, the male a cappella group Straight No Chaser (SNC) will perform at the Smith Center in Las Vegas! Tickets to this incredible performance start at just $27 (plus applicable fees) and are on sale at the Smith Center Box Office, TheSmithCenter.com, or by calling (702) 982-7805. For Groups of 10 or more, contact The Smith Center Group Sales Department at (702) 634-4585

If the phrase “male a cappella group” conjures up an image of students in blue blazers, ties and khakis singing traditional college songs on ivied campuses… think again. Straight No Chaser (SNC) are neither strait-laced nor straight faced, but neither are they vaudeville-style kitsch. Originally formed over a dozen years ago while students together at Indiana University, the group has reassembled and reemerged as a phenomenon – with a massive fan base, more than 20 million views on YouTube, and numerous national TV appearances. On the road, Straight No Chaser has built a reputation as an unforgettable live act. Straight No Chaser is the real deal – the captivating sound of 10 unadulterated human voices coming together to make extraordinary music that is moving people in a fundamental sense… and with a sense of humor.

With gravity-defying rhythm and inventive sounds, “A Classical Encounter with Savion Glover” seems to achieve the impossible: a continuous flow of percussive taps with the subtlest of moves. Also known for being one of the greatest improvisational tap dancers, this evening of sound to dance and dance to sound invites the educated ear on a ride through dance like only Mr. Glover can conduct.

Jam Theatricals and STG present An Evening with Anthony Bourdain & Eric Ripert at The Paramount Theatre in Seattle on Saturday, February 11, 2012. Price level A ticket includes post show reception with Anthony Bourdain and Eric Ripert, featuring light refreshments.

Bourdain and Ripert are two unlikely friends. Both are chefs with very different careers and very different philosophies. Is it good vs. evil? This frequent tag team appears often together – at the Gourmet Institute, on Martha Stewart, the 92nd Street Y in NYC – and both are regular judges on Top Chef. But, in this special one-night-only event see it in person – the free flowing, frank and provocative back and forth about the restaurant business – from both ends of the spectrum, including highlights from Eric’s career and lurid lowlights from Anthony’s. It’ll be an evening to remember with two talented individuals with very little in common, other than friendship.

Chinglish is the new “shrewd, timely and razor-sharp comedy” (The Chicago Tribune) by Tony Award winner and Pulitzer Prize finalist David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly) about the challenges of doing business in a culture whose language—and ways of communicating—are worlds apart from our own.

Chinglish makes its Broadway premiere direct after playing at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre where The Tribune also gave it 4 stars.

In this sexy and romantic play, an American businessman arrives in a bustling Chinese province looking to score a lucrative contact for his family’s sign-making firm. He soon finds that the complexities of such a venture far outstrip the expected differences in language, customs and manners – and calls into questions even the most basic assumptions of human conduct.
